What job would use holistic nutrition and human anatomy/physiology?

Monday, December 14th, 2009

I am interested in holistic nutrition and human anatomy and physiology but I do not want to work directly with people. I also do not want to work in an office sitting in front of a computer all day. Is there a career these areas could apply to? Is there a combination of short courses I could take or would this require a BSc?
Interesting! I never considered osteopathy. I will look into it. Thanks.

Working at a Osteopathic Hospital would fit in to your criteria.

Would anyone recommend HGH use a weight management tool?

Monday, December 14th, 2009

I am trying to losing 100+ lbs. I do work out and do cardio 2-4 times a week. Due to work load i just cant make time for more exercise. I have heard HGH might help in excelerating weight loss. Any advice or suggestions. Any opinion on legal issues as far as prescribing this drug?

HGH is not illegal. But the only way it is going to get prescribed to you, is if you are older than 50 years old or suffering from dwarfism. Other than that I think your SOL and might want to consider talking to a nutritionist or someone else instead.

Do the old consume too much health care? How should health care resources be distributed across the population?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

What are each generations obligations to those before and those after them? Do the old consume too much health care? What is too much? How should health care resources be distributed across the population? Should health care be explicitly rationed on the basis of age?

Interesting question. How many young people, say 30 and younger have paid into a health insurance plan since they were first employed? How many of these have had extreme health issues that otherwise would have wiped them out? Truth is, and the insurance companies know, is that the youth have *always* subsidized the elderly because statistically, one is more likely to need to *use* health insurance when one is older, than when one is younger. So, younger folks premiums go to the cost and care of those who are older. In a way, not unlike a Ponzi scheme.

Is this bad? In strict terms of the youth subsidizing their older compatriots, no. But when it gets dicey is that the youth get old eventually, and when they get their insurance revolked because of a pre-existing condition, or, they have become too expensive to cover and subsequently get cancelled by their health insurance company, that’s when it becomes criminal.

So, short answer, no. There should be a Public Option that ensures the health care of everyone.

What kind of supplement should I buy to help me maximize my workout?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

I am about to start working out again and I was wondering what is a good supplement to help me get bigger faster. Please answer only if you know what your talking about and dont answer the question with steroids.

No Xplode pre workout then at least 40 grams quality protein within 30 min post workout.

You will end up with adrenal fatigue though just like if you use caffeine, cocaine, amphetamines and steroids.

What is the definition of nutrition and structures in Science?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

There’s a follow-up question after this: What is the comparison and contrast between the structures, nutrition and reproduction of the 5 kingdoms ( Monera, Protoctista, Fungi, Animalia, Plantae)?

Please reply A.S.A.P. Thanks for helping.

The five-kingdom classification of organisms
Nomenclature: Naming of organisms
Binomial: Biological name of an organism → Genus species
Taxon: Set of organisms within a category / Taxonomy / Study of biological classification
Different levels of taxons: SPECIES, GENUS, FAMILY, ORDER, CLASS, PHYLUM, KINGDOM
Most number of species on right
Most similar organisms on left
Unicellular: Single cell; Colonial: Groups of cells; Multicellular: Many cells
Autotrophs produce energy from inorganic sources
Phototrophs from photosynthesis/sunlight
Chemotrophs from simple inorganic (oxidative) processes
Heterotrophs digest and absorb organic molecules

Prokaryotae (prokaryotes)
Cell structure:
Prokaryotes, unicellular
Prokaryotes lack cytoplasmic organelles found in eukaryotes
Cell wall: murein
Nutrition: autotrophic (photosynthesis, chemosynthesis), aerobic heterotrophs
Divide by binary fission, not by mitosis
≈10μm in size (bacterial cell, filaments of blue-green bacteria)
Mutualistic nitrogen-fixing bacteria live in nodules on the root of legumes / symbiotic

Protoctista (protoctists)
Cell structure: eukaryotes, unicellular and multicellular
Cell wall: (sometimes) polysaccharide
Nutrition: autotrophic, heterotrophic
Placed in this category by exclusion / cannot be placed in any other kingdom
Slime moulds / fungi characteristics
Protozoa / heterotrophic and ingest food
Algae / photosynthesis
≈10μm (amoeba) – 1m (Laminaria / large brown alga)

Fungi
Cell structure: eukaryotes, multicellular and unicellular (yeast)
Cell wall: chitin
Nutrition: heterotrophic / saprotrophic decomposers or parasitic
Genus Penicillium
Body of a fungus is composed of thin filaments called hyphae / form a mycelium
Secret enzymes / external digestion / absorbs resulting nutrients
Erect hyphae that grow upwards from the mycelium carry their reproductive spores
Chains of spores on the erect hyphae / coloured mould visible on stored food
Break down organic matter

Plantae (plants)
Cell structure: only multicellular, eukaryotic; large vacuoles
Cell wall: cellulose
Nutrition: autotrophic (photosynthetic)
Growth is restricted to meristems (layers/patches of dividing cells)
Non-motile; adapted to land / strong tissues, leave gas exchange system, waterproofed
Eg mosses, ferns, conifers, angiosperms (flowering plants)

Plant kingdom has two different types of adults in their life cycle
Gametophytes, hidden in plant / sexual reproduction forms multicellular zygotes
Sporophytes, what we call plant / asexual reproduction to form spores that germinate into gametophytes
Gametophyte (n) → gamete (n) → fertilisation → zygote (2n) → mitosis → sporophyte (2n) → meiosis → spore (n) → mitosis → gametophyte (n)

Animalia (humans, animals)
Cell structure: eukaryotic, multicellular, no cell wall
Develop form a blastocyst / embryo
Have nervous and hormonal control systems
No cell wall!
Nutrition: heterotrophic, involving a digestive system
Are motile and grow throughout tissues (no mersitems)

Why is there such a backlash on players that took HGH?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

HGH is not a steroid, isn’t illegal, and wasn’t banned by baseball until recently. So why is it such a big deal if a player used it to recover from an injury 6-7 yrs ago. If I knew if I could use it and recover from an injury in 5 months instead of 6 I would use it also. It doesn’t give you a "competitive edge" like using steroids can. I just don’t know why the media is putting HGH in the same category as steroids.

FYI – HGH is illegal without a prescription, which is what most of these players don’t have.

Plus, whether it’s prescribed or not, it builds muscle tissue and makes you stronger, giving you an edge over people who are not on it.

HGH is just what players need to hit that ball a few more feet and to get those extra MPH on their fastball. How does it not give them an edge?
