What fitness program is best suited for Marine Corps bootcamp preperation?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

I need a fitness program that will get me in shape for the Marine Corps. I have about one and a half years until I start NROTC.

Do these workouts:

PPPA: Push/Pull/Press/Abs

First, pushup/pull-up supersets. For example, 10 pulls, 25 pushes, 8 pulls, 20 pushes, 6 and 15. The numbers increase each time you do it. By week 8 or 9, I believe it’s something like pull-ups: 16/14/12 and pushups 45/40/35. Ouch.

Ammo can press/crunch supersets come next. I think the ammo cans are 20 or 30 pounds each (full of sand.) This is a great preparation for the CFT and PFT. These are timed events, so you end up doing about 2 min/1.5/1 minute for ammo can presses, alternating with crunches of about the same time.

Fartleks

Fartleks are 3-5 mile runs, interspersed with workouts every half mile or so. Fartleks are very similar to the Run Course/Mec Weight (or something like that) where you just don’t run as far, and do more workouts. An awesome cardio workout.

Example exercises: Pushups, pull-ups, crunches, sit-ups, frog sit-ups (wide knees like you’re doing a groin stretch), diamond pushups, body squats, bend and thrusts, burpees, dips, mountain climbers, sprints

Also when you get close to going to OCS, start doing practice humps (aka hikes) with boots and weights in a backpack.

What health problems are needed in order to qualify for gastric bypass surgery?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

What types of health problems are needed to qualify to have gastric bypass surgery? Do you only qualify if you have severe health problems caused by this or could you qualify if you have smaller health problems like knee arthritis & breathing problems? Most of my family is obese and have heart disease, sleep apnea. Would they take that into consideration? My sister had gastric bypass surgery with a starting weight at 208 and is down to 128. I don’t think she had any medical problems due to her obesity.

Usually you have to have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 or more to qualify for gastric bypass. If you have a BMI of over 35, sometimes you can qualify if you have significant co-morbidities such as diabetes or sleep apnea. First and foremost, "they" look at how morbid obesity is affecting you, however, your family history may be taken into account, if close relatives are morbidly obese and have health problems relating to obesity.

What is the best protein supplement for getting shredded?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Bodybuilders talk about a bulking phase and then a cutting phase. My problem with this is that they look fat to me and I don’t want to look like that. Can anyone recommend a protein supplement that can help me get ripped, like shredded to the bone, without putting on fat and then having to shed it.

I recommend taking creatine, it’s a little pricey but really helps build muscle.
Take it for 2 weeks and then stay off of it for 2 weeks.

How is the nutrition from oomycetes the same as golden algae?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

This is a biology homework question and I have no clue what this is asking me. The original question was: "Compare the nutrition of oomycetes with that of golden algae."

Could someone please help me on this? I have been stuck for about a good hour and a half. Thanks so much.

the natural way of course it to eat a lot of lean meats with high amounts of protein, tuna, chicken breast and red meat, make sure you guys eat carbs as well preferably from oatmeal, banana and brown rice! make sure you guys never feel the hungry sensation because that’s when your metabolism slows, try eating some fruit inbetween meals to keep your metabolism out of starvation mode and keep your energy levels up
