How do I improve fitness in a week?

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

I’m not talking about losing weight.

I’ve been training some for a physical fitness test required for a job I’m applying for…I have to do 18-22 pushups, run 1.5 miles in 14-15:20 minutes, and do at least 28 situps in a minute.

Currently, I have not made the 1.5 miles in 15 minutes. I’m a couple of minutes shy. I’ve been doing pushups every day, but not as good about running. Now it is crunch time.

I was just informed this morning that my test is next thursday. We did not have more notice than this. What should I do in the meantime to maximize the little time I have left to train?

Please realize I’m not looking for miracles, I know you can’t get into the best shape of your life in one week’s time, but this is what I have to work with. How can I do it best?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Its commonly held in triathlete circles that you get the benefit of today’s workout in two weeks.

Sorry, not much you can do in terms of fitness at this point. Its kind of hard to make suggestions, not knowing where you are in terms of fitness and miles per week.

Typically, endurance athletes ‘taper’ before big events, i.e., do their last really long runs 2-3 weeks before, then gradually reduce mileage leading to a couple days of rest right before the big event.

I guess ‘practicing’ by doing your hardest runs in the 2 days before the test would be a bad idea……

Whatever you decide to do, you don’t want to be tired and sore the day of. If it was me, I’d probably just continue running easy this week, maybe swim a couple miles easy 2 days before to stay loose, and rest the day before.

Can you start using your health insurance card as soon you receive it?

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

I’m planning on getting health insurance for myself. Can you use your insurance card as soon you get it? I want to use it for a health check up, dental, etc…

Most companies will make it effective next day as long as you don’t have any ongoing/unresolved health problems. However if your medical situation is more complicated they can push the effective date back till they have answers. The insurance company will most likely ask to view medical records and/or receive an attending physician statement which because of the snail pace in medical records departments can take up to 18 business days – in other words about a month. Best advice? Start looking for insurance about 30 days before your current coverage will cease to give the underwriting department for your new company time to handle any snafus.

What is the best supplement to use for building muscle?

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

I want to pack on muscle but I am not sure what supplement to use. I’m skinny and need to put on some muscle for football. Does anyone have any idea’s?

supplements are expensive and your body don’t absorb all of the nutrients they suggest you to take anyway. i suggest you eat peanut butter and jelly sandwich and milk with a banana with your exercise you can even make it a chocolate milk to replenish your sugars this will help gain weight an help repair muscle at the same time due to the peanut oil and banana. make sure the peanut butter you get has oil floating on top that’s how you can tell the quality of the peanut butter from the oil on top of the peanut butter.

hope this helps.

What will happen if I lift heavy, have bad nutrition, but do insane amounts of cardio?

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

I am looking to bulk up, but have pretty poor nutrition. I am trying not to gain fat so I am doing a high amount of cardio to make up for it. What do you think the outcome will be?

Nutrition is more important than the lifting for bulking up. If you’re not getting enough protein and BCAAs, your body resorts to breaking down muscle instead of fat. Theoretically, you should be consuming 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound you weigh each day. If you eat right, you can gain the muscle while simultaneously cutting fat. Cardio is important, but not as important as eating right.

What are the chances of getting side effects from taking hgh?

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

I want to take Hgh because i want to grow taller. Are there side effects?
I just turned 19 i think my growth plates are open because they usually close at about 21 years old.
Also a main concern are the side effects like jaw growth. Does that happen only if you take it for long duration and heavy does. Because i just wanted to take it in small doses only for a month or two

I know the side effects but what are the chances of getting them if u take small doses.

Im 5’8 right now

Do you want a deformed face?! think about that

What exacly is the paramedic fitness tesy?

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

I’m planning on applying to school to become paramedic. I’m wondering when is the fitness test? Some people say you take it while in the program and others say you take it before you apply for a job. What is this test anyways, is it just a lift test or is it more involved? I’m completely in the dark about this so any information is awesome, lol.

The fitness test isn’t difficult. You have to be healthy and have a BMI that is in a close range to what it would be for your age and height.

Where can i find a good health insurance to pay for eye surgery?

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

Well I do not have health insurance and I was just wondering? Does anyone know of a good health insurance that would pay a large sum of money if I do get this surgery?

I don’t know if you’ll be able to get Health Insurance with a pre-existing condition but you can always try the National Eye Institute, which supports eye research, they dont help individuals pay for eye care, however, if you are in need of financial aid to assess or treat an eye problem, you might find one or more programs at their site below:

http://www.nei.nih.gov/health/financialaid.asp

Also, getting quoted is free so you have nothing to lose by shopping around, these http://moneysavecenter.com/health/ will compare 12 carriers filling out just the one form so I saves a lot of time.
Hope you find something!

What are the cons of taking a testosterone supplement?

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

I am thinking about taking a testosterone supplement for working out, i like all the things the magazines say it will do for you. However I am curious as to what the negative side effects may be, or if there even are any.

the only thing i’m pretty sure of is that if you’ve already gone through puberty it can kinda cause you to go through it agan, things like acne and aggression and stuff, and if you suddenly stop taking it, it can cause your you know whats to shrink and damage your sperm, i’m not 100% sure about that cause its been a long time since i heard anything about it but i’m pretty sure, you really shouldnt take it unless your testosterone levels are too low, i would advise talking to a doctor first before taking anykind of hormone supplement, most of that stuff in general can have serious side effects especially if you dont need it

Can the human body receive nutrition from food ingested rectally?

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

I’m wondering if the human body is able to receive nutrition and nourishment from food inserted anally or if it can only break down food properly if eaten orally. This is a serious question; I don’t mean this as a joke.

You could. If the food managed to make it to the stomach but that would cause irreparable damage. But if you mean for it to only receive nutrition from inside the rectum then that is no. The anus lacks any way to absorb nutrition as it is not meant for that.

How do you determine which fitness level you are at?

Thursday, January 17th, 2013

I read something which mentioned fitness levels such as 7.3 and 9.2. How do you work out which fitness level you are currently at?

base it on other peoples fitness levels and if they say for example i’m a 7.3 i run a mile a day lift for an hour etc. if you do that much your a 7.3, if you do more or the same exercise but longer or more intensely you’d be put higher. if you do less you get the idea.. that would be my guess.
