What should a man in his fifties fitness program look like?

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

I am interested in what other men in their fifties do for high level fitness training. I have been working out throughout my adult life but I wonder how other guys have adapted their workouts.

Many men don’t get regular physicals. If you have seen your doctor and have been given approval, then up your level. For this, talk to a trainer who understands the needs of men at this age. If your knees are in good shape, and your heart is good, and you pass a Thalium stress test, I don’t see why there would be a need to cut back.

What is the relation between your physical fitness and how you manage stress?

Monday, October 4th, 2010

How does your physical fitness level determine how well you manage stress?

Preferably in detail with links to support.

The two go hand in hand.
Your body will effectively suffer for your mental stress, as when you stress you release cortisone, which depletes muscle and fitness gains.

However, fitter people are usually calmer (not always) and have better circulation, allowing them to process the stress and its physical effects.

How do I improve the health and fitness of my boyfriend and I?

Friday, September 24th, 2010

My boyfriend and I are both wanting to lose some weight and improve overall health. We don’t live together, but I want to plan some sort of fitness challenge for us to do at the same time. Any idea of how to do this when we live an hour apart? We see each other on weekends, so that is easy, but I need something for the weekdays.

First let me ask. What are your activity levels like? and how much weight do you want to lose? The reason why I ask is because I’m a Beachnody coach and we have programs designed for all different goals, like loosing weight, to getting fit and having toned muscles.
Next is how much time and effort are you willing to put into it? Reason being I can help get you in shape within 3 months. My wife an I done it, and I’ve helped dozens do the same.
There’s a science to it but you have to dedicated to see maximum results. Now even if you were to "cheat" meaning eat junk food every now and then you can still lose weight but it will just take that much longer. As for the being apart you both can do the same workout routines and make it a competition like what my wife and I do. We’re very competitive and we push each other everyday trying to out run or do more crunches than the other. It makes it fun. I’ll tell you what here’s a link to my website take a look at the programs and if you decide that this is what yo want to do, just email or call me and I’ll walk you through it. Deal? Well I wish you and your BF good luck and I look forward to hearing from you.

What are good scores for the Presidents fitness challenge for army rotc for a 17 year old girl?

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

I am a 17 year old female and I am applying for an army rotc scholarship. My scores for the presidents fitness challenge are 31 sit-ups, 20 push-ups, and 6:44 mile. Are these scores good enough for a scholarship? I’m getting really nervous about this.

You’re scores are great. Just work on your sit-ups. I’m 17 (female), did 21 push up, 52 sit-ups, mile in 9:30 and earned a full scholarship. You’re definitely in the clear as long as you have the academics and extra curriculars to back you up. You’re interview is also incredibly important. They won’t rule you out based on one thing.

You’re scores are definitely good enough for a scholarship.

What fitness program is best suited for Marine Corps bootcamp preperation?

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

I need a fitness program that will get me in shape for the Marine Corps. I have about one and a half years until I start NROTC.

Do these workouts:

PPPA: Push/Pull/Press/Abs

First, pushup/pull-up supersets. For example, 10 pulls, 25 pushes, 8 pulls, 20 pushes, 6 and 15. The numbers increase each time you do it. By week 8 or 9, I believe it’s something like pull-ups: 16/14/12 and pushups 45/40/35. Ouch.

Ammo can press/crunch supersets come next. I think the ammo cans are 20 or 30 pounds each (full of sand.) This is a great preparation for the CFT and PFT. These are timed events, so you end up doing about 2 min/1.5/1 minute for ammo can presses, alternating with crunches of about the same time.

Fartleks

Fartleks are 3-5 mile runs, interspersed with workouts every half mile or so. Fartleks are very similar to the Run Course/Mec Weight (or something like that) where you just don’t run as far, and do more workouts. An awesome cardio workout.

Example exercises: Pushups, pull-ups, crunches, sit-ups, frog sit-ups (wide knees like you’re doing a groin stretch), diamond pushups, body squats, bend and thrusts, burpees, dips, mountain climbers, sprints

Also when you get close to going to OCS, start doing practice humps (aka hikes) with boots and weights in a backpack.

What are the best fitness classes out there that help you to tone up the belly?

Monday, August 16th, 2010

I am looking for fitness classes that are great to help you to tone up I would love a flatter stomach. I have had a go at body pump but that class kills me. So if you know any fitness classes that have really toned u up or you pals. Please let me know?

In order to tone up the best form of physical activity is weight training. Its the best and most effective method of toning and burning body fat. Aerobic classes such as body pump, spinning etc are brilliant but to really firm up you should get a weights programme done specifically for the areas you want to tone up. For your tummy you need to burn body fat and then tone, sit ups will not tone your tummy on their own unless you are burning fat consistently and resistant type exercises are by far the best. If you going to a gym get the instructor to do a programme for you 25-30min 3x a week is suffice. Or get a fit ball and do resistant exercises at home – you will see results within 2-3 weeks.Good luck.

What are the physical fitness standards to be a Marine?

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

I’m interested in doing personal fitness. I figure I’d set my bar at the best of the best. I’ve looked at the Marine recruitment site and they offer not even a hint of what sort of fitness you’d need to be in.

Thanks for commenting.
By all means, share whatever fitness standards you know. Anything is better than not knowing anything.

just to let you know if you are looking to set your physical fitness at the best of the best you arent going to find that in your average marine there are parts that have way harder physical fitness standards so you might want to look into those pt standards

Navy Seals
Army Special Forces
Delta Force
Army Rangers
